SEA FISHING

For anyone unfamiliar with the site always check the FRESHWATER, SALTWATER and TACK-TICS pages. The Saltwater page now extends back as a record of over several years of (mostly) sea fishing and may be a useful guide as to when to fish. The Freshwater stuff is also up to date now. I keep adding to both. These pages are effectively my diary and the latest will usually be about fishing in the previous day or two. As you see I also add the odd piece from my friends and correspondents if I've not been doing much. The Tactics pages which are chiefly 'how I do it' plus a bit of science are also updated regularly and (I think) worth a read (the earlier ones are mostly tackle and 'how to do it' stuff).

Last bass?

I generally pack in bassing about this time of the year but if we get a decen bit of wind from the west it's often worth one last try. The other day was a case in point. Ben and I went down to the coast to find it a little rough but easily fishable. Another pal. Richard, turned up soon after us - obviously of the same mind.

Ben and I wandered out onto the ledge, both using big poppers, in hopes of a decent fish and Richard stayed in a little bay plugging away. As it turned out we were both right. Richard had a couple of smallish bass from his bay before coming out to join us and Ben landed a fish of about five pounds on his Chug Bug - I didn't have a sniff. On the following morning I went on my own but again I had no bites. Three other people were fishing and none of them had a bite either. That's the problem at either end of the season - the fishing's inconsistent.

Ben's got one.

Ben kneels to unhook his catch.

Nice one.

Ready to be returned - a fine Autumn bass.
