SEA FISHING

For anyone unfamiliar with the site always check the FRESHWATER, SALTWATER and TACK-TICS pages. The Saltwater page now extends back as a record of over several years of (mostly) sea fishing and may be a useful guide as to when to fish. The Freshwater stuff is also up to date now. I keep adding to both. These pages are effectively my diary and the latest will usually be about fishing in the previous day or two. As you see I also add the odd piece from my friends and correspondents if I've not been doing much. The Tactics pages which are chiefly 'how I do it' plus a bit of science are also updated regularly and (I think) worth a read (the earlier ones are mostly tackle and 'how to do it' stuff).

Active Angling for kahawai.

My pal Alan Bulmer lives in Auckland New Zealand and he's a very good angler. Alan runs an excellent angling website "Active Angling New Zealand" containing a huge amount of good information relevant to fishing anywhere in the World. All anglers should find it interesting and entertaining. Recently he sent me an email and a couple of pictures of his recent sea angling sessions - here's his account:-

Hi Mike,

Trust this note finds you and the family in the best of everything.

Thought you’d like to see a couple of kahawai I’ve caught over the last week. Not a lot of fish but excellent quality. The fish I’m holding was nearly 6lb and contained two massive piper (also shown). It’s stomach was fully distended. This fish didn’t run it just jumped...9 times in total.

Today’s fish would have gone 4lb. It thought it was a trevally at first as the take was brutal and the first run was epic, probably 40 metres. Every time I got it close it set sail for Australia again. Cracking sport.

Both fish caught on bibless vibes. The biggest on a 5 cm Teppan Vibe and today’s on the ever reliable 7 cm Yozuri 3D vibe. Love the image of you and your pals wearing masks. The comments on FaceBook were priceless, especially the one asking which one of you looked most like Compo from the "Last of the Summer Wine."

For those who haven't seen it here's the picture.Taken by Bill Fagg

Take care and tight lines.

Many thanks and best regards,

Alan Bulmer.

Nice picture, nice lure, nice fish!.

Alan with the obligatory selfie.

It looks as though bigger lures might be in order?.
